This is my first attempt at writing a blog, i'm not an avid reader (i'm willing to change that) so im not going through the manuals on how to write a blog, i'll prefer learning to do so along the way.
I would like to talk about customizations. Customizations to me and to a lot of people I know matter a lot. As far as I can recall, it maybe started with me when I was a kid and owned my first Bicycle, I immediately went to a nearby Cycle repair shop as he used to keep a few accessories to buy some for my bike to stand out from the rest of them around. That was my first memory of customization. A pair of red rubberised tacky handle grips, a bell that sounded nicer, a dynamo (light source) and most importantly a chain lock matching my bike and keeping it secure.
What purpose did it serve back then.
1) Beautification
2) Adding Utility (functionality, security etc.)
3) Protecting my original thing to stay new as I could always go back to the basics and it would stay new for longer.
Its another story that some of our stuff gets sold or we get bored of it before we've even used them in their native states, but hey, good resale value. Can relate that to my PS3 which is hardly used these days, but sells for more than what i bought it for. That kinda gives my another boost to invest on something that still has some value, so I got some vinyl stickers for my PS3, PS2 (out of the closet ready to serve as my DVD player, i got a remote for that as well) & my PSP (why let the lil fella cry for new clothes).
Ended up investing more, so is the case with my Galaxy S4, have bought so many cases (close to 15) that im just stuck with it right now. Selling it doesnt remain a profitable prospect anymore. On the up side, I get to spend some more time with it. Not a very good idea spending in some depreciable item anyways.
That reminds me of my wife's car, the Hyundai i20 that I have been planning to sell of to buy a new one, but just the idea of getting it customized (that I wont do with a new one) has kept me from selling it.
Customization induces a new life into your belongings. For most of us the best example is accessorizing ourselves (through the clothes and the bling) to enhance our appeal and self esteem.
The way we accessorize ourselves, our dogs, our cars, i'm the most into accessorizing my Gadgets.

My addiction is such that I can be without the fancy clothes or cars and live in a cottage in a village in the perfect setting of nirvana BUT with my gadgets.
Customization apart from the adding beauty and protection, has another most important aspect to me, adding Utility.
Adding Utility is the ultimate driving tool for me to customize my gadgets, what utility does an accessory or a customization add.
The thing is customizations can both be hardware and software (under the hood)
with cars it can be the hardware for the spoilers and the lights, and software as in the engine customizations which enhances its feel.
With gadgets its a more clearer seggregation, hardware cases for looks outside, software customizations for the feel inside.
There are varied preferences and approaches to this, some prefer the bling, or over the top cases, some would need to take the bulkier option for more protection. I would need the more minimalistic range, as I am so much in love with my gadgets that i'll keep them safe anyway (exception: after having a kid, preferences need to change slightly esp if having a kid like mine - Mr. Destructive).
As for the outside, inside as well i would like to have a minimalistic approach and use every possible inch of the screen available to me, without compromising on the full functionality and accessibility.
That motivation has led to the customization of my gadgets, in case of my Nexus 7, i have more than one ways of accessing my soft keys without giving any extra space for the soft keys to operate and enjoying the full 7 inches of the tab, no notification bar either.
This is the journey of an addict. Funny thing is addicts figure out a way and push the limits to fulfil their addictions in any and every way possible.
I see customizations as a cure to my addiction, but i know its just a mean to 'delaying the inevitable'.
Customization itself is an evil to curb the evil (addiction), the reason why i dont buy a DSLR, is definitely not because i cant afford it, Its because the amount of customizations it comes with that unless i have splurged on 90% of the available customization options which would atleast cost me 900% more that the gadget itself, i wont Stop.
Whatever we did was to stay mentally engaged, now these products keep us so engaged that we dont want to come back to the real world and interact. Which again i see as both good and bad.
Good that people would likely lie more to you than a gadget or be of more value to you. But at the cost of customization and an anti-social life.
